Brilliant Bookshops: The Book House, Thame

Yesterday, I visited The Book House in Thame. Nestled at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, this lovely little town boasts lots of history, parks, a Museum, a Theatre and a lively High Street with plenty of independent shops. It is also one of the most frequently used filming locations for the popular ITV series, Midsomer Murders. As you make your way along the main street, you will notice a rather lovely, chubby puffin (Fat Puffin), welcoming you into The Book House, Thame’s wonderful independent book shop.

For the past 50 years, this brilliant bookshop has been at the heart of the community, specialising in children's books and as soon as you enter, you feel welcomed into somewhere very special. About half of the shop is dedicated to children's literature. With a whole section given to board books, shelves of picture books, books for the younger and older reader, the shop is my idea of paradise!

The shop is an absolute Aladdin’s cave, beautifully laid out with plenty of space of browsing and exploring each section. The building is full of character and they even have a Secret Garden- a little courtyard which can be accessed through the conservatory at the back of the shop where you can sit and enjoy a quiet read!

The Book House is a wonderful bookshop- a real gem- well worth making a special trip to Thame for!
