Brilliant Bookshops: The Book Nook, Hove

The people of Hove are very lucky. Not only do they live by the sea, they have one of the loveliest bookshops on their doorstep! Located in First Avenue, The Book Nook’s fabulous painted windows beckon any book lover and tempt them to enter.

Once inside, it’s hard to know where to start looking as the shop is wall to wall temptation! It’s no wonder that this is a multi-award winning shop as it manages to balance an amazing stock of wide-ranging, beautiful children’s books with a calm browsing atmosphere, offering plenty of room to pause and marvel at the content of the shelves!

Having had a lovely chat with the lady in the shop (I must learn to ask people’s names!) and having managed to decide on a few purchases, I decided to treat myself to a hot chocolate and a little read whilst giving my husband time to enjoy a walk along the beach to Brighton pier. Not only was the hot chocolate delicious and the book excellent (‘The Spell Tailors’ by James Nicol), it gave me a chance to admire the range of artwork for sale on the walls of the cafe area and to eavesdrop on the conversations of other customers. There is no doubt that the staff are not only very friendly and helpful, but extremely knowledgeable!

The shop runs a thriving programme of events involving authors, illustrators and story tellers and work in partnership with the Brighton Festival. This is a shop that spreads the joy of reading and shares the magic of books. I just wish I lived nearer!

A bookshop not to be missed!
