Brilliant Bookshops: The Little Apple Bookshop

York is an amazing city to spend time in. With so much to see and do, it is the perfect place to either wander and explore or to visit specific locations. With its Roman walls, Viking settlement, chocolate connections, ‘snickelways’ and beautiful buildings, it is a city with something for everyone- and one of my favourite places!

Just round the corner from York Minster, the magnificent cathedral, is 'The Little Apple Bookshop'. Established in 1997, this is a brilliant bookshop, crammed full of book-ish delights which I take great pleasure in visiting every time I’m in York. On this occasion, there were roadworks outside (which is why the photo is at an odd angle), but this didn’t spoil the experience in the least!

The children's department is tucked away at the back of the shop and to get there, you have to make your way past a wonderful array of book related figures, bags, games and other things. A great range of titles was available- picture books, first books, graphic novels, non-fiction, poetry...plenty to tempt and delight! Laid out in a very child friendly, attractive way, the shelves were easy to browse and enjoy.

However, contrary to normal practice, it was the ‘grown-up’ books which drew my attention and I managed to buy quite a few! The lady at the till was both helpful and friendly, easily chatting about books and reading and adding to the welcoming atmosphere this cosy shop offers. I wish I lived closer so that visiting could be a weekly (if not daily!) event!

A little gem in the heart of one of my favourite cities in the world, 'The Little Apple Bookshop' is well worth a visit and a brilliant place to spend time!
