Brilliant Bookshops: The Edge of the World Bookshop

If you’re looking for a bookshop with a tantalising name, you surely can’t do much better than this one! The Edge of the World Bookshop has been on my TBV (to be visited) list for quite a while so I was very excited to be staying only a couple of hours away! Not even the sideways rain and gloomy mists were going to stop me setting off for Penzance…

The bookshop is to be found on Market Jew Street (which apparently is derived from the Cornish ‘Marghas Yow’ meaning ‘Thursday Market’), a busy street at the heart of Penzance. The bright, bold shop front with its attractive window displays are sure to tempt any passer-by and a steady stream of customers visited whilst we were there.

The children’s section is to the right of the shop as you enter and offers a very tempting array of treats. Everything is beautifully presented, making browsing very easy and enjoyable and although the shop has a wealth to choose from, it feels uncluttered and calm.

Both the adult and children’s sections offered a diverse selection, logically laid out so that books are easy to find or discover. There was a very pleasing focus on books relating to Cornwall and the local area, including ‘The Mousehole Cat’ and ‘Cornish Tales’.

The member of staff we saw was very helpful and knowledgeable about the shop’s stock and seemed pleased that we had come to Penzance specifically to visit the bookshop. I wish we lived closer so that visits here could be a regular thing, but we’ll just have to plan more holidays to Cornwall!

Well worth going out of your way to visit!
