Brilliant Bookshops: The Cotswold Bookshop

The historic town of Wotton-under-Edge lies within the Cotswolds Area of Natural Beauty, in the south Cotswolds. The ‘edge’ refers to the Cotswold escarpment, under which the town nestles, overlooking the Severn valley. The heart of the town is the main street - Long Street- which offers a wonderful array of independent shops, including a bead shop (Tanzee Designs- very worth a visit!) and a lovely independent bookshop- The Cotswold Book Room. The above photo is from a previous occasion as when I visited today, there was scaffolding outside!

There has been a bookshop here for more than 20 years, but since the new owners took over in early 2020, the shop has been given a new lease of life. The welcome from the staff is always so friendly with each customer being given a warm greeting as they enter. Whilst I was there, it became obvious that the shop has regular customers who are well known, but everyone who entered was valued.

The children’s section is at the back of the shop and it is a very appealing space, light and open, with plenty of books to browse and enjoy. The range of books is obviously chosen with great care and thought, but they are quick to offer to order in anything you want! The staff are obviously passionate about books and knowledgeable about their stock. 'The Cotswold Bookroom’ is a lovely bookshop, well worth a visit!
