Brilliant Bookshops: Curious Otter Bookshop

Ottery St Mary is a very pretty town on the banks of the River Otter. It is the birthplace of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and a statue of him now stands outside the church. Home of the world-famous Tar Barrel ceremony which takes place every November, Ottery St Mary is also the inspiration behind Ottery St Catchpole in the ‘Harry Potter’ books. The town offers a wonderful range of independent shops, like The Curious Otter Bookshop.

Found on Mill Street, The Curious Otter is a delightful shop. Warm and welcoming, the owner was extremely helpful, not only going to collect extra things for us to look at, but also sharing his knowledge about the town and its history.

The children’s section is located at the back of the shop. Tucked away in a space of their own, children can explore a lovely range of books in a calm space, perfect for browsing at leisure and finding the next perfect read. Between this room and the front of the shop is another room which houses the most amazing collection of notebooks and gift cards. I was in my element and bought some beautiful Paperblanks notebooks as well as other books!

Curious Otter Bookshop is a bookshop well worth a visit!
